STRENGTHS
Chemistry. The unit’s core — quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, tight end Heath Miller and receiver Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes — has been together for several seasons and played in dozens of big games against elite defenses. Arizona won’t be able to do anything that Roethlisberger (3,301 yards, 17 TDs, 15 INTs) hasn’t seen before. Ward (1,043 yards, 7 TDs) and Holmes (821 yards, 5 TDs) and Miller (514 yards, 3 TDs) all are capable of producing a big play.
WEAKNESSES
Protecting the quarterback. The Steelers have allowed 49 sacks, as only Cincinnati, Detroit and San Francisco yielded more in the regular season. The offensive line has improved as the season has progressed, but Roethlisberger is known to hold onto the ball too long and often tries to force plays.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Ward. The MVP of Super Bowl XL is not only the team’s leading receiver, he is its emotional leader. He will be hindered by a sprained knee, and his effectiveness against Arizona’s zone-heavy coverage could be the decisive factor.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“They are a damn good football team. You can call it whatever you want. They are a good bunch.” — Ravens defensive tackle Trevor Pryce.
