World Cup is a big hit in Washington and Baltimore

If there is any doubt that Washington is World Cup crazy a quick check of the early ratings shows that from Embassy Row to Capitol Hill and every where in between fans are watching both on TV and broadband.

In numbers provided by ESPN – Washington ranks 3rd among the 56 metered markets thru the first 14 matches of World Cup coverage on ESPN/ABC. DC is averaging a 3.4 rtg per match (78,700 impressions). Miami-Ft Lauderdale leads all markets (3.9 avg rtg), followed by New York (slightly higher 3.4 if you take it out one more digit). DC’s highest metered market # so far is 9.4 rtg from US-England on ABC last Saturday. Overall, ESPN/ABC is averaging a 2.1 US rtg and 3.3 million viewers (+64% from the 2.0 million viewers vs. first 14 matches in 2006).

Charm City also has made some news coming in at #10 in metered markets w/ 2.6 avg (28,600 impressions). Baltimore had a 6.6 rtg for US-England match. l
