Five players to watch at this week’s Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, N.C.:
Anthony Kim
Returns to the scene of his first PGA victory (2008). Despite ligament damage (thumb) that will require surgery, Kim is on a hot streak. His 65 on Sunday at Augusta was good for third place a week after winning at Houston.
Phil Mickelson
Game on? Mickelson has won each of the last three tournaments that he and Tiger Woods have entered: Tour Championship, WGC-HSBC and Masters. He has not played since winning his third green jacket three weeks ago.
Jim Furyk
After two years of frustration, Furyk returned to the winner’s circle with a pair of titles this spring. He’s second in money and FedEx Cup points. Furyk won at Quail Hollow in 2006.
Fred Couples
After his worst Champions Tour finish (tie for fourth) in five starts, Couples returns to the PGA Tour this week. He played in the Wednesday pro-am with good friend and Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan.
Ricky Barnes
After finishing in the top 10 in his last two events, Barnes enters on an uptick. He has made the cut in 12 of his last 13 tournaments.
