Don’t ask, don’t tell

It’s not often you get to watch a “60 Minutes” lead story with a principal player in the segment standing right next to you.

But a small gathering at Adams Morgan’s Duplex Diner watched Sunday’s story on the U.S. military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy with Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, who makes an appearance in reporter Lesley Stahl’s piece.

Sarvis has long been a player in Washington: A former staff director and chief counsel of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Transportation and Science, Sarvis has also worked at Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic National Committee’s Business Council.
