Eight local boys high school lacrosse players were named as Under Armour All-Americans last week.
The eight Baltimore players will join 38 other high school seniors, who will participate in the first-ever Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic at Towson University?s Unitas Stadium on June 16-18.
Austin Boykin (St. Paul?s), Chris Boland (Boys? Latin), Brian Carroll (Gilman), Brian Farrell (Boys? Latin), Mike Gvozden (Severna Park), Bryn Holmes (McDonogh), Mike Kimmel (Loyola) and Brian Phipps (Severn) will play for the All-America South team in the 7 p.m. boys game.
Bob Shriver, the head coach of the 2006 MIAA champion Boys? Latin Lakers, will coach the South team in the inaugural game. “The game sounds like a pretty exciting event,” Shriver said. “Under Armour is a first-class company. They have gone in full tilt, and from what I gather every kid selected to the event has decided to come.”
Shriver?s Boys? Latinteam went 21-0 this year en route to the MIAA A Conference championship.
“It has just been a very magical season,” Shriver said. “Having the opportunity to see Chris [Boland] and Brian playing again enhances the excitement.”
Shriver said that he was looking forward to seeing the talent from around the country, but that he is especially interested in Evan Royster from Westfield High in Northern Virginia. “I have heard a lot of people talk about him,” Shriver said of the Penn State football recruit.
According to a release from Under Armour, the event will include clinics and scrimmages. Underclassmen boys and girls teams will compete in a “Baltimore vs. Washington” set-up on June 18.
The senior boys? All-American game will be televised live on ESPN U June 18th at 7 p.m.
The girls All-American squad had yet to be announced. The senior girls game is set for 5 p.m. on June 18.
The rosters for the underclassmen boys and girls teams will be announced soon as well. Those teams will play on June 18, with the girls starting at 1 p.m., and the boys playing at 3 p.m.
