Saving Graces

E. Edwards adds to best-selling book

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of presidential candidate John Edwards, has added a chapter to the paperback edition of her book, “Saving Graces,” that deals with the recurrence of her cancer. People magazine’s Aug. 20 issue, on newsstands Friday, contains an excerpt.

The “one good thing” about incurable cancer, she told People, is that it “gives you permission not to keep putting things off.“Everybody wants to hear that the tumors are gone. I think that’s an aberrational result, but it doesn’t mean I’m not going to hope for it.”

In the excerpt, she writes, “I could have married several men — an embarrassing number actually — but I was certain I would know when the right life-mate came along. Well, I met John and I didn’t know. But I came to know, to love, to grow with John and beside John.”
