Super Bowl VII » The Redskins waited until less than two minutes remained before finding a highlight. After a blocked field goal, Miami kicker Garo Yepremian comically tried to pass the ball. But Mike Bass intercepted and returned it 49 yards for a score in a 14-7 loss.
Super Bowl XVII » Washington trailed 17-13 and faced a fourth-and-1 from the Miami 43 late in the game. A perfectly executed running play left John Riggins one-on-one with corner Don McNeal. Riggins swatted his arm tackle attempt away en route to the go-ahead score in a 27-17 win.
Super Bowl XVIII » Marcus Allen’s 74-yard touchdown run might be the most memorable highlight. But the biggest occurred just before halftime. Rather than run out the final 12 seconds from their own 12, quarterback Joe Theismann threw the Rocket Screen pass in the left flat that linebacker Jack Squirek intercepted at the 5 and scored for a 21-3 lead in this 38-9 win.
Super Bowl XXII » With Denver leading 10-0, quarterback Doug Williams got hot. A 35-point barrage in six minutes started with an 80-yard bomb to receiver Ricky Sanders, who adjusted his route and ran a fly instead of a hitch.
Super Bowl XXVI » No single play stands out in this 37-24 win, which wasn’t as close as the score. But perhaps the biggest came on the first play of the second half when linebacker Kurt Gouveia intercepted Jim Kelly and returned it 23 yards to the Buffalo 2. One play later Gerald Riggs scored for a 24-0 lead.
