McCain on Romney: Turn him off

If there was any question as to the antipathy that John McCain felt for his erstwhile opponent Mitt Romney, the April issue of Esquire dispels it. Reporter Chris Jones gives a first-person account of McCain’s primary night in New Hampshire.

As the television networks were preparing to air Romney’s second-place speech, McCain told his wife,  Romney’s going to speak here, so we better turn that down, Cindy.”

She didn’t hear him, so he reiterated, “It will be interesting, Ron Paul bringing in third here — I would just turn that down.”

“Another silver,” Romney said from the podium.

“That’s why I wanted to turn it down,” exclaimed a nauseated McCain.
