D.C. United is on the verge of adding three Latin American players, according to South American media reports.
The club is close to reaching deals with Argentinian forward Franco Niell, Colombian defender Gonzalo Martínez, and Peruvian goalkeeper Jose Carvallo.
Niell, 24, is a 5-foot-4, 143-pound forward from Argentinos Juniors. Martínez, 30, is a 6-foot central defender, and Carvallo, 22, is a 5-11 goalkeeper from Universitario de Deportes in Lima.
United general manager Dave Kasper declined to comment on the international signings, but the additions could be made official prior to the MLS draft on Friday in Baltimore.
United owns picks in each of the second, third and fourth rounds of the draft, the earliest being the 24th selection.
Kasper, who was in Florida last weekend attending the 2008 Major League Soccer player combine, said the team is unlikely to trade up, as it would likely require the team to part ways with current players.
