Woods ready for European vacation?

Despite being No. 129 in the FedEx Cup standings, Tiger Woods passed on an opportunity to play in this week’s Wyndham Championship. That eliminated him from this year’s playoffs, which include the top 125 players and occupy the following four weeks on the PGA Tour schedule. To give Woods a chance to compete, Colin Montgomerie extended the 14-time major champion an invitation to play in the European Tour’s Johnnie Walker Championship next week in Scotland.

“We haven’t had a reply yet,” said Montgomerie, the tournament chairman. “Tiger looks like he’s going to have nowhere to play in the next three months.”

After shooting a 77 and 73 and missing the cut by six strokes at the PGA last week, Woods pronounced his balky left knee fit and said he was anxious to sharpen his game.

The next event on his schedule is the Australian Open in November, unless he agrees to play on the European Tour, which runs through mid-November, or the Nationwide, which runs through October.
