Getting tripped up by all the silly talk

U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley told reporters this week that his advice for injured forward Charlie Davies was to “maybe not have so much to say,” in reference to Davies’ endless positive tweets that set him up for failure when he didn’t make the U.S. World Cup squad.

Perhaps Bradley should offer the same advice to forward Jozy Altidore, who told Yahoo! Sports last week that he was trash-talking with injured English midfielder David Beckham while attending a Los Angeles Lakers playoff game.

“I made sure he knows how it’s going to be without him playing — USA 3, England 0,” said Altidore, who is also coming off a red card for a head butt in his final English Premier League match of the season. Clearly, it’s a good indication of the form on and off the field for a 19-year-old on the verge of his first World Cup.

If only ESPN would put him in a “SportsCenter” commercial. Altidore could use the exposure.
