Schlesinger falls in U.S. Senior Women’s Am

Laytonsville resident loses in 20 holes in semifinals

Lisa Schlesinger’s run in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur is over. The Laytonsville resident and former professional basketball player fell in the semifinals to Terri Frohnmayer of Salem, Ore. in 20 holes.

Medalist Schlesinger, 53, took the lead on the opening hole at the Honors Course in Ooletwah, Tenn., but lost the next two and never again led. After playing brilliantly throughout the tournament, Schlesinger made just one birdie in the semifinals.

Her bogey on the 480-yard par 5 second hole and Frohnmayer’s par ended the match. Schlesinger missed the green on her third shot and left a flop shot 35 feet away, two putting. Frohnmayer two-putted from 40 feet, sinking a four-footer for the victory.

“I’m disappointed,” Schlesinger told the USGA. “I really thought I had a chance to win this. I think my putting really let me down.”

The 105-pound Frohnmayer, 55, will play defending champion Mina Hardin, 51, in Thursday’s finals. Hardin defeated another former U.S. Senior Women’s Am champion in the semifinals, 2007 winner Anna Schultz, 56, of Rockwall, Texas.
