Anthony Kim is putting on a back nine charge reminiscent of Jack Nicklaus in 1986. Kim has played four straight holes in 5-under par to pull to within a shot of Phil Mickelson. With pars on his last two holes, he will shoot 31 on the back nine, one shy of what Nicklaus shot 24 years ago.
Here’s the big difference, however. Mickelson still has the par 5s to play. In the first three rounds, Mickelson is 5-under on No. 13 and 2-under on No. 15. Will Phil play is safe? Remember we’re talking Phil Mickelson here. He’s on No. 13 now. Stay tuned.
Ooops, didn’t type fast enough. Mickelson just fired out of pine straw to the green on No. 13. It just cleared the creek and has a putt inside four feet for his third eagle of the tournament on this hole.
Forget all the hole-outs. That was the shot of the tournament – and maybe of Mickelson’s career.
