Schedule would feature Steelers, Colts, Ravens
The Redskins play a preseason schedule that, for games that don’t matter, is rather interesting. They play a Super Bowl participant, high-caliber quarterbacks and three playoff teams. And the one that failed to reach the postseason won four more games than it lost.
Of course, it may not matter. None of these games might ever be played if the lockout continues into August as many fear — and expect.
But if the lockout does end before August, this is what the Redskins’ preseason schedule looks like (the time and date of three of these games are to be determined):
Week 1 (Aug. 11-15) vs. Pittsburgh » The Steelers will play an exhibition game vs. the Redskins for the sixth time since 2000. Pay close attention to the Steelers’ defense; it’s what the Redskins want to become. All they need is another outside linebacker, a nose tackle, another inside linebacker and perhaps a defensive end.
Week 2 (Aug. 18-22) at Indianapolis » Redskins fans will get to see Peyton Manning play a quarter (maybe a little more). In other words it’ll be like a game in late December for the Colts. The last time these teams met in the preseason, a star and a myth were born as quarterback Colt Brennan delivered a terrific fourth-quarter performance. Hard to imagine he would be out of town within three years.
Week 3 (Aug. 25) at Baltimore » A nationally televised game by ESPN in the preseason. Another round of questions about this Beltway rivalry that the players say really doesn’t exist.
Week 4 (Sept. 1-2) vs. Tampa Bay » The Bucs are the only ones not to have made the 2010 postseason — and they were 10-6. For all we know this might be the only one they actually play, which means what usually is a game in which the starters play one quarter could turn into one in which they play much more.
The regular-season schedule will be released later this month.
