Making the best of a QB situation

After the 2009 season, the Philadelphia Eagles had a situation to deal with at quarterback.

Starter Donovan McNabb was coming off a Pro Bowl season, Kevin Kolb was waiting for his opportunity after finishing his third year in the league and Michael Vick wanted a larger role than being just the Wildcat quarterback.

Now only Vick remains on the roster after Philadelphia has cashed in on its other two passers.

On Thursday, the Eagles agreed to deal Kolb to the Cardinals for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (a Pro Bowler in 2009 and former first-round pick) and a future second-round pick.

For McNabb’s services to come to Washington, Philadelphia received a second-round pick, which they used on starting safety Nate Allen.

For a past-his-prime quarterback and an unproven passer with three career wins, the Eagles greatly improved their secondary and still have a future second-round pick.

Maybe more teams will start stockpiling quarterbacks.
