Home sweet home

There’s no shortage of wealth in this year’s presidential race. But John Edwards still takes the prize for most expensive home among his candidate peers: Edwards paid $6 million for his North Carolina manse, which is the most expensive in a county where homes average $365,000.

According to a report on CNBC’s “Street Signs,” Edwards beats Rudy Giuliani by $750,000. Rudy’s $5.25 million co-op in Manhattan is worth nearly four times the average there.

Reporter Diana Olick said Barack Obama paid $1.65 million for his house on Chicago’s South Side, well beyond the average price of $310,000. Hillary Clinton bought her house in Chappaqua, N.Y., for $1.7 million — slightly above the town average of $1.13 million.

John McCain’s house in a gated Phoenix community cost him $3 million, far beyond the city average of $428,000. Mitt Romney is tough to pin down because he has so many homes, but his family house in Belmont, Mass., went for $1.7 million, more than double the town average of $680,000.
