Luciano Emilio‘s days are over at D.C. United. As was expected, the team declined to pick up his option for the remainder of the season. After being re-signed in May, Emilio appeared in just four regular season matches, playing 157 minutes with one start. He did score once in U.S. Open Cup qualifying and once against AC Milan.
“Luci came in a little bit unfit,” said United general manager Dave Kasper. “It was a tough situation for him to come into. He gave it his all. It just wasn’t at what a production we thought he was, and I’m sure he feels the same way.”
So, with Pablo Hernandez and Branko Boskovic on board, and Bryan Namoff done indefinitely, D.C. is holding firm, for now.
“We’re going to evaluate our roster, evaluate our group,” said Kasper. “We’re still waiting to see what’s going to happen with Marc Burch, what’s going to happen with Rodney [Wallace]. Rodney’s made a very quick recovery, but he’s still coming off a broken bone. That could take a little bit of time, so we’re going to evaluate those two guys and certainly evaluate the team and continue to look for options at the same time.”
