While D.C. United took the week off after last weekend’s regular season finale against Sporting Kansas City – they’ll reconvene for three weeks of training in November before shutting down for the offseason – goalkeeper Bill Hamid is the first to seek training elsewhere, hopping on a plane Thursday night to England, where he’ll train with Premier League club West Bromwich Albion for a week.
He’s not on trial.
“It’ll be a great experience for him to compare himself to other Premiership keepers,” said Hamid’s agent, Chris Megaloudis.
Hamid is unlikely to return home immediately after his stint with West Brom ends because he’s expected to get a call into the U.S. national team squad that will play at France on Nov. 11 and at Slovenia on Nov. 15. Based on the recent comments from U.S. head coach Jürgen Klinsmann, Hamid’s selection for the full national team seems more likely than a call into the combine U.S. under-23/under-20 camp that will take place in Germany from Nov. 7-16.
Hamid’s fellow D.C. United teammates Perry Kitchen and Ethan White are both likely invitees for the u-23/u-20 group.
