So lost in an avalanche of trade news, Caps right wing Eric Fehr took to the ice for a full practice on Monday morning. Fehr, who hasn’t played since Jan. 14, wanted to test his injured shoulder. It wasn’t as physical as a game, obviously. But Bruce Boudreau watched intently as Fehr dug into the corners going after pucks. That alone tells him his third-line right wing is gaining confidence.
“I think my range is pretty much back,” Fehr said. “Just trying to get my shoulder feeling strong so I can protect myself on the ice.”
It’s been a frustrating few weeks for Fehr, who was rounding into form when he collided with former teammate David Steckel during a game against Vancouver. He had scored two goals in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, of course. He had four goals and three assists in his final nine games. Fehr had double shoulder surgery in the summer of 2009 and said this injury isn’t all that different.
“They are pretty similar. It was a pretty big injury and that’s why it’s taking me so long to get back,” Fehr said. “It’s been frustrating I had started to play a little bit better before the injury so hopefully I can get back in and pick back up where I left off.”
