Everything shouldn’t be seen through a ‘racial prism’: Joe Concha

Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha argued that everything shouldn’t be about race, after The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg said the New York Knicks should visit the White House to remind President Donald Trump about black history.

Knicks team owner James Dolan confirmed on Wednesday that the team accepted an invitation to visit the White House after winning the NBA Championship for the first time in 53 years.

“While Whoopi is correct in her assertion that the Knicks should go to the White House, everything shouldn’t be seen through a racial prism,” Concha said on Fox News’s Hannity Thursday. “This is a human championship, regardless of color.”

By accepting the invitation, the Knicks will become the first NBA champions to visit the White House under Trump. The Oklahoma City Thunder declined the invitation last year, and all of the teams that won the title during the president’s first administration did as well.

“I want them to go. I want all those black men to stand in our house and remind all of those people, as we tried to remind the vice president, that when you try to destroy one part of history, you’re destroying all of our histories,” Goldberg said on The View on Thursday.

Concha said there are great basketball players from every race, highlighting Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan.

“Nobody gave a damn what their skin color was,” Concha said.

Concha also questioned why everyone assumes the Knicks players don’t support Trump or want to meet the president.

“Why are we to assume, by the way, that the Knicks players are all anti-Trump?” Concha said. “Because I’m willing to bet some players on that team support the president, especially because many of them are millionaires and they probably like to keep more of their money with lower taxes.”

Concha also highlighted that Trump is a longtime Knicks fan, attending games before he jumped into politics.

The president attended Game 3 of the Knicks finals series against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden, sitting with his family and Dolan. While Dolan enjoyed having Trump at the game, fans booed the president when he appeared on screen during the national anthem.

“Trump has been going to the Knicks games since Joy Behar was in her 40s, going all the way back to the 80s,” Concha said. “It’ll be fun to watch the meltdown when the visit actually happens.”
