Jeremy Lin is off to a dubious start as the leader of the Houston Rockets.
A senior member of Houston’s locker room, even though he’s only embarking on his third NBA season, Lin mistakenly called rookie Scott Machado to wish him well in the future after the James Harden trade, instead of Jeremy Lamb, who was sent to Oklahoma City in the blockbuster deal.
“I was like, ‘Hey, it’s Scott, it’s not Jeremy,’?” Machado told the Houston Chronicle about his conversation with Lin. “?’Did you hear something about me?’ I was all nervous. He was like, ‘Oh, I apologize, I apologize.’ It all worked out.”
Of course it worked out for Machado. He beat out Shaun Livingston — who had a guaranteed deal and should draw interest from the Wizards — to make the final Houston roster.
But a minor misstep for Lin might just reveal how big a task he has on his hands not only to play well on the floor but to bring together a young and newly assembled roster.
A good first step would be inputting the correct names and numbers into his phone.
