Redskins 2010 Week 14 report card vs. Bucs

Early trend

The Redskins capitalized on Tampa Bay’s over-pursuing defense in the first half as Ryan Torain gained 158 yards. But the Bucs adjusted in the second half, using more backside run blitzes and playing more defenders on the strong side.

Under the radar

Facing a defense that played a lot of zone coverage, the Redskins were unable to get the ball to TE Chris Cooley until the final drive. For the game, Cooley caught only two passes for 22 yards. But seven other players caught passes.

Did you notice?

With the Redskins facing a third-and-goal from the 12-yard line, they had RB Keiland Williams run the ball rather than have Donovan McNabb pass, an unusual move and either a bow to the weather or a lack of trust in McNabb.

From the sidelines

Raheem Morris deserves credit for second-half defensive adjustments, slowing the Redskins’ running game. The Bucs also somehow persevered despite losing two more starters to season-ending injuries. That’s seven and counting this season; they’re 8-5.

Hard to blame this loss on Mike Shanahan. The Redskins missed two short field goals and dropped two rather easy INTs. The offensive game plan was excellent, though it took a while for the Redskins to adjust in the second half.
