Is the economy finally cooling off D.C.’s red-hot restaurant scene? Well, when celebrity chefs decide NOT to come here, we’ve got to wonder.

Foodies had been drooling lately when they heard that Daniel Boulud — the star proprietor of Daniel and five other highly regarded properties in Manhattan (and the former chef to the European Commission in D.C.) — would open a restaurant in the West End.

In doing so, he’d follow in the footsteps of nationally known chefs Eric Ripert, Wolfgang Puck and Alain Ducasse in setting up shop in Washington.

But it was not to be. Boulud has pulled out of the project, sources tell us. “It was a project we were considering, and we are no longer,” said a spokeswoman for Boulud in confirming the rumor. She would not elaborate on the reasons.

But speaking of chefs, that was Anthony Bourdain spotted at Eamonn’s A Dublin Chipper in Old Town Alexandria on Monday.

Filming an episode of his Travel Channel show, “No Reservations,” Bourdain and his crew dined on fried cod, fried Milky Way bars and the restaurant’s new “Chip Butty,” a french fry sandwich. Bourdain was also spotted at Ben’s Chili Bowl this weekend, after spending time with Jose Andres at the Penn Quarter Farmers Market last week.
