Brodeur keeps hope alive for Devils

It’s still difficult to believe New Jersey will complete the comeback. The Devils became only the third team in Stanley Cup finals history to even force a Game 6 after trailing 3-0. So the Los Angeles Kings likely will capture their first Cup. But if the Devils manage this minor miracle, they can thank 40-year-old goalie Martin Brodeur. It’s not as if Brodeur has been flawless. He was pulled during one bad game in the first round of the playoffs. He allowed four goals in a Game 3 loss vs. Los Angeles. But in the other five games? He’s allowed four goals in regulation.

“For whatever reason, I’m less nervous now than I was, maybe, five or six years ago,” Brodeur told Sports Illustrated. “I just feel fortunate to be in this position at my age. Because for me, that could be it — not to play, but to be in the situation to do something great in the playoffs.”
