Virginia senior Kyle Dixon is scheduled to start taking a business class Wednesday as an extension of his sociology major.
“I?m not really sure if that?s going to take me anywhere,” Dixon said of his major.
Dixon, who is one of five local players on the Cavs? roster, said the major interested him. But he?s “looking to do the lacrosse thing for a little while.”
After winning a national title in his freshman season at U.Va., Dixon has his Cavaliers en route to a second crown to cap his career.
On Sunday, it looked as if his squad was unstoppable at Towson University.
Virginia?s offense was on display in a 20-8 thrashing of Georgetown, sending Dixon and his Cavs to Philadelphia in search of a redeeming Final Four sweep.
Part of that offensive explosion came courtesy of Loyola High grad Ben Rubeor, who scored five times against the Hoyas.
Virginia (15-0) is set to square off with Syracuse (10-4) Saturday at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia?s Lincoln Financial Field. The fifth-seed Orange upset Johns Hopkins, 13-12, at Stony Brook Saturday.
Severn School product Kip Turner was in goal last spring when the Cavaliers dropped a 9-8, overtime decision to Johns Hopkins in the NCAA semifinal.
This year?s team is similar, Turner said, with the exception that they are more experienced, and have received an influx of young talent.
“I think it has a lot to do with the seniors, and also the freshmen,” Turner said about the driving motivation behind Virginia?s run.
Otherwise, Turner feels the 2006 version has nothing else to change from last spring.
“Nothing different,” he said after Sunday?s win. “I feel like [we need to] just come out on top of it early. Ithink we might have missed that a little bit last year. I think just do the same thing we?ve been doing all year.”
WHO CAN BEAT THE HOOS?
» A pair of St. Paul?s school products, sophomore Pike Howard and freshman Gavin Gill, are also on the Cavs roster. Gill?s older brothers, Connor and Brendan, played for Virginia.
» Dixon and fellow Virginia senior Matt Ward are among five finalists for the Tewaaraton award. Chris Rotelli, who won the award in the Cavaliers? last championship season of 2003, is the lone Tewaaraton winner in Virginia history.
» Virginia is 9-11 all-time in meetings with Syracuse, and won, 20-15, on March 4.
» The Cavaliers have reached the NCAA finals four times under head coach Dom Starsia, winning the title in 1999 and 2003.
