Top Five Sleepers to win Heisman Trophy

It’s never too early to target some unexpected Heisman hopefuls. Here are five players who have gotten off to hot starts on teams that have won their first two games: 5. RB Ray Graham, Pittsburgh » The Big East has several running backs who have had solid starts but none better than Graham. The Panthers junior has an NCAA-leading 322 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

4. RB David Wilson, Virginia Tech » With Darren Evans and Ryan Williams finally out of the picture, Wilson can be the Hokies’ feature back. And he has taken advantage of his opportunity, averaging 7.1 yards a carry and gaining 300 yards in Virginia Tech’s first two games.

3. QB Taylor Martinez, Nebraska » The speedy sophomore could improve as a passer — he completed less than 50 percent of his throws against Chattanooga and Fresno State — but there’s no denying his playmaking abilities as a runner. He has amassed 301 yards on the ground with five touchdowns, averaging 8.9 yards a rush.

2. RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina » The sophomore back is building on a freshman campaign in which he ran for 1,197 yards in the toughest conference in the country. No running back breaks more tackles. Lattimore rushed for 176 yards in South Carolina’s 45-42 victory Saturday over conference foe Georgia.

1. QB Russell Wilson, Wisconsin?» The Badgers are known for their big rushing attack, but the N.C. State transfer is giving Wisconsin a threat in the passing game. Against UNLV and Oregon State, Wilson completed 79.4 percent of his passes for 444 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions.
