Time for this trend to walk the plank

Now that the NBA is the only locked out league, it needs star power to distract from a depressing lack of movement in labor negotiations.

Wizards center JaVale McGee to the rescue.

McGee recently earned himself plenty of attention on Twitter by making the most of the fad du jour: planking. The 7-footer has laid face down on the hood on his car on the Los Angeles freeway and on a shelf inside a grocery store freezer.

But playing in Manila, Philippines, last weekend alongside Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, McGee stole the show by combining his on- and off-court skills. After a swooping dunk at one end, McGee raced down the court for a signature block at the other before lying down on the court, becoming the first player ever to do so intentionally.

The move earned him more attention than his 25 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks. But is there any chance that planking during a game demonstrates that even when McGee is playing basketball, his focus is often somewhere else?
