Blair off to record start

Led by junior pitcher Michelle Linford, Blair’s softball team is off to its best start in the program’s history, a perfect 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the 4A North Division, one game better than last year, when the Blazers won their first six games.

Junior Allison Rubin and senior Sarah Rumbaugh, both left-handers, have sparked the offense. Rubin went 3-for-4 in an 8-5 win over Damascus, and Rumbaugh is hitting .500 for the season.

Linford was in the circle for the win over the Hornets and a morale-boosting victory over Gaithersburg.

“We’ve had great seasons the past few seasons, but we’ve never won a playoff game,” said Blazers coach Louie Hoelman. “That’s keeping us focused and driven for the stretch run.”
