So far this season, the Saints and Colts have been very impressive. But neither team will go 16-0. Having Drew Brees and Peyton Manning under center usually helps cover up any holes, but there are some glaring flaws on both teams.
New Orleans has been very opportunistic on defense. They have seven defensive touchdowns, but they also allow over 20 points per game. If teams take care of the football, they will find success against the Saints — especially on the ground where New Orleans ranks 20th in the NFL against the run.
Indianapolis has suffered a long list of injuries in the secondary, but their defense is still first in the NFL in points against. The real problem is the Colts’ one-dimensional offense. Indy ranks 31st in the NFL in rushing. Manning’s job is much harder without the threat of them running the football.
Despite the Saints and Colts being 10-0, we’ve yet to hear from our favorite rapper from the undefeated 1972 Dolphins, Mercury Morris.
So Cheers & Jeers will help with the latest track on the broken record: Can another NFL team go undefeated?
You’re going to ask me this 10 games into the season?
Come back to me when you have a good reason.
The Saints and Colts are paper mache.
They’re soft and both will lose the next time they play.
The Saints face a Pats’ offense that’s clicking.
Expect the next fourth-and-two for them to be kicking.
There is no way they can stop Brady and Moss.
So on Monday night, the Saints will suffer their first loss.
As for the Colts, who have been squeaking out wins.
There’s no way they’ll challenge the ’72 Fins.
Houston already could have beaten Indy.
In a dome it must be hard for Kris Brown to blame it on being windy.
The Texans kicker missed a game-tying 42-yarder.
But this time in Houston, a Colts’ win will be much harder.
So listen for that champagne to pop.
Because this week, both of these teams will drop.
