So successful was the first Funniest Fed competition this summer that word apparently got up to Manhattan.
Founder Naomi Johnson announced that New York City’s annual Underground Comedy Festival has invited her to produce a one-night Funniest Fed in October where a selection of federal employees-cum-standup-comics will perform.
In related news, local filmmaker Robert Raffety is making a documentary about the inaugural event.
“We digitized all the footage (about seven hours or so total) and the editor is in the process of pulling out some of the best stuff,” he wrote us this week. He said all that remains are a few interviews, most notably with winner Freddi Vernell.
“It’s an intense project, and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get those last interviews,” he said.
Raffety hopes to end up with a 25-minute film when he’s done. He said it will show on Arlington Independent Media and possibly on other local public broadcast channels.
