A sizeable number of boys soccer players will miss high school games Friday as they head to Cincinnati with Reston FC ’88 to compete in this weekend’s Blue Chip Showcase soccer tournament.
The girls’ version of the Blue Chip conveniently fell during spring break, but the boys’ competition starts Friday and will affect a number of teams entering the heart of the district regular season.
Chantilly coach Tracy Birrell said she’ll be without playmaking juniors David Menzie and Carlos Davila at home against Fairfax on Friday.
Juniors Harry Beddo and Torey Beiro, who play for Jefferson and McLean, respectively, will be gone when the Colonials host the Highlanders on Thursday.
Players from Osbourn Park, Forest Park, Robinson, Oakton, Lake Braddock and Herndon also are represented on Reston’s roster.
The Blue Chip is one of the top spring showcase tournaments in the country — with last year’s event attracting more than 300 college coaches, according to its Web site.
Reston FC ’88 is currently the top-ranked club team in Virginia by Gotsoccer.com. It won the Jefferson Cup and the Baltimore March Madness tournaments earlier this year.
