College basketball is getting to the critical mode. Any hopes of local powers Georgetown and Maryland making it to the NCAA Tournament really begin today. The Hoyas could use a win over 8th ranked Marquette in a big game on ESPN at 2 from the Verizon Center. Meanwhile the Terps hope that they can make a case for themselves later this afternoon when they host North Carolina at the Comcast Center on ABC7 and ABC2. Strarting at 3:30pm
College Lacrosse gets underway this weekend with Towson taking on Loyola at 1pm on ABC2. Also on ESPNU it will be Georgetown taking on Maryland also at 1pm.
Racing has a special chance for fans to see a double header from out in California with the trucks running on FOX5 and 45 at 3pm. Then on ESPN2 it is the Nationwide gang in primetime at 7:30pm. Sunday is the Sprint Cup boy’s running on FOX from California at 5pm.
Sunday the Caps get the national treatment as they will be featured in the NHL on NBC as they host Pittsburgh at 12:30pm from Chinatown. By the way the other day while in Canada President Obama told a group of reporters that he has never seen an NHL game in person. I know he is a busy man at the moment however we need to get the Prez and his family over to the Verizon Center. I think the entire family would look good in red.
I do not want to forget our many NBA fans as the Wiz will play tonight at home against the Spurs. The actions starts at 7pm on CSN. Sunday offers a triple header on ABC and ESPN. The action gets started with Boston at Phoenix at 2pm on ABC, and then over on ESPN the 5:30pm game is Miami at Orlando with Dwight Howard facing down Dwayne Wade. The nightcap has Detroit at Cleveland at 8pm for a full day of quality NBA action.
Some quick notes… Kudos to Chick Hernandez who scored exclusive interviews with Tiger Woods and former Wiz head man Eddie Jordan all in one week for CSN…We also wish the best to NBC 4’s very talented sports anchor Dan Halle who banged up is leg while skiing recently.
