Lloyd leaves team and town with a deservedly bad rap

Brandon Lloyd is gone — Amen.

Lloyd blamed everybody for his problems except the right person — himself. The guy was clueless. What really irks me is Lloyd leaves town with $11 million despite getting fired for being a terrible player and worse teammate.

Lloyd made Michael Westbrook look like Darrell Green. It’s bad enough Lloyd never scored a touchdown in two seasons. Or caught two passes last year after losing his starting job in preseason. Or suspended one game for falling asleep at his locker to miss a team meeting (that none of his teammate bothered to wake him up says everything).

The worst sin was wasting his talent. He just didn’t care to work hard enough to use it. Lloyd was more interested in his rap career. Maybe his next song can include “I played real crummy because I was a big dummy.”

Certainly, the Redskins are partly to blame for creating this overpaid mess. Lloyd was a known problem in San Francisco’s locker room so why trade two picks for him and needlessly rip up the contract to add a $10 million bonus? The Redskins front office brain trust wonders why the fans don’t trust them when making dumb moves like the one for Lloyd.

Does Lloyd’s departure mean the Redskins are shopping for free agent receivers? Actually, it was more to do with a coming roster bonus due Lloyd than readying for Chad Johnson, Randy Moss or other big-money playmakers the Redskins swear they’re not pursuing.

We’ll see. The Redskins will surely sign a receiver over the next week, though probably a No. 3. The draft might offer better value with the 21st pick, especially if Washington signs a defensive end beforehand.

Meanwhile, the only records made by B-Lloyd will be self-published. It’s not like he can’t afford it.
