Point guard is out for the season

A day before playing at rival Duke, the Maryland basketball team received bad news on Friday. Sophomore point guard Pe’Shon Howard is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn cartilage in his right knee.

Howard suffered the injury in practice on Thursday. The medical report was released Friday afternoon during practice.

“We’re heartbroken for Pe’Shon,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said. “He’s done everything we’ve asked of him this season and he was playing very well. Obviously, it’s been a tough year for him, but he’s a great kid.”

Howard missed the first nine games of this season after suffering a broken bone in his left foot. In his absence, freshman Nick Faust took over as the starting point guard. Sophomore Terrell Stoglin also played significant minutes at the point.

In 14 games, Howard was averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
