It was good to see former PGA Tour players Jason Gore and Ty Tryon make the cut at the U.S. Open, albeit with no room to spare at 7-over par. Two weeks ago at Woodmont in U.S. Open qualifying, Gore and Tryon were a likable pair, even though they exhibited completely different personalities.
While Gore was funny, engaging, and entertaining as he wowed fans with his length off the tee and his touch, Tryon was much more insular as he made his way around Woodmont. In a post-round interview, however, Tryon was smart, thoughtful, and gracious.
Both are struggling in the third round, but at least they will take home checks on Sunday.
If you believe that good things happen to good people, then the reverse also is true. For evidence, see Arjun Atwal, who missed the cut by one stroke at Pebble Beach, to the disappointment of no one who got a dose of him when he qualified at Woodmont.
