Meet and eat

Each week, Yeas & Nays joins Carol Joynt, the host of the Q&A Cafe at Nathans of Georgetown, at various power breakfast spots around the city to see which players are getting their day started with deal-making, networking and glad-handing.

With the Washington region well-rested from the Thanksgiving break and buzzing about the Middle East conference in nearby Annapolis, it was no shocker to see the Four Seasons packed with VIPs on Tuesday morning.

Two prominent bigwigs held court at their respective tables, with breakfast companions hanging on every word: Hogan & Hartson senior international affairs adviser H.P. Goldfield and Cassidy & Associates founder and executive chairman Gerald S. J. Cassidy.

Around the room, you could spot Brookings Institution President Strobe Talbott, Four Seasons Ventures founding partner Joel McCleary, lawyer (and husband of Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren) John Coale, CityBridge Foundation President (and wife of Atlantic Media chairman David Bradley) Katherine Bradley, and former J.E. Robert Company president and chief investment officer Deborah L. Harmon. And, last but neverleast, Champion Breakfaster Juleanna Glover dined with Portfolio’s Matt Cooper.

But perhaps the highlight of the morning was the group of Italians who stealthily made their way to the bar, ordered up a quick round of coffee, downed them and left without paying.
