Former Maryland QB follows the successful path of Russell Wilson
Transferring from an ACC school to Wisconsin after his graduation worked out for Russell Wilson. So why shouldn’t it work for Danny O’Brien?

Wednesday when the school announced that it had secured the services of former Maryland quarterback O’Brien, one had to wonder how much Wilson’s success had to do with O’Brien’s decision.
Wilson, who graduated from N.C. State with a year of eligibility remaining and moved to Wisconsin without having to sit out a season, ranked second this season in the FBS in passer efficiency (191.6) leading the Badgers (11-3) to the Rose Bowl.
O’Brien, who is set to graduate from Maryland this spring, will have two years of eligibility at Wisconsin. He redshirted his freshman season at Maryland. After he was named rookie of the year in the ACC in 2010, O’Brien struggled last season under new head coach Randy Edsall and the spread attack of offensive coordinator Gary Crowton.
At Wisconsin, O’Brien should be suited to the pro-set run by coach Bret Bielema. O’Brien thrived at Maryland in a similar offense run by Ralph Friedgen.
Penn State and Vanderbilt, led by former Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin, were among other schools O’Brien considered.
