Former Nationals first-round draft choice Aaron Crow is the hottest fantasy league addition in recent days. With the demotion of Joakim Soria, after his third straight blown save on Monday, Crow has been named the closer for the Kansas City Royals.
Crow, taken No. 9 overall by the Nats in 2008, didn’t sign. The Nats aren’t bemoaning the loss. They received a compensatory pick the following year, which they used to select Drew Storen, now their blossoming closer with nine saves and a 0.90 WHIP. Crow went back into the 2009 draft and was selected No.?12 overall by the Royals.
Crow, 23, has been one of the major league’s most dominant set-up men through the first two months of his rookie season. In 27 innings, the right-hander has surrendered 19 hits and nine walks with 26 strikeouts, a 1.33 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.
“He has great stuff,” Royals manager Ned Yost told reporters. “But we’ll balance it day to day. The thing I don’t want to do is pile a bunch of innings on these kids.”
