OK while there is nearly 2500 miles left to be raced before the Chase for the Cup is over Jimmy Johnson has given very few reasons to doubt that he can win yet another title.
Lowe’s Motor Speedway plays host to the only night race during the Chase part of the series and while Johnson is a 3-1 favorite to win – the Vegas odds makers have firmly in front of the pack – night races have a way of making things far more interesting.
There will be a very good chance of rain that is likely to play games all day long along the East coast. The key is can they dodge the raindrops.
Johnson is a two-time winner of this event and leads the point standings by 12 over Mark Martin thanks to his win last week in the Pepsi 500. Johnson has finished in the top 10 in all four Chase for the Championship races, including two victories.
Martin is a three-time winner of this event, with his last win coming in 1998. Martin has finished no worse than seventh in any Chase race and has one victory during that time. On the year, Martin has five wins to his credit.
Jeff Gordon sits fifth in the standings, 105 points behind his teammate, Johnson. Gordon is a two-time winner of this event, with his last win coming in 2007. Gordon has back-to-back runner-up finishes and has one win in 2009.
