Satellite radio subscribers in the Baltimore-Washington area are now graced with a brand new show, “Mad Dog Unleashed” on Sirius-XM radio. Sports talk personality Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is currently heard from Monday – Friday from 2-7 p.m. Soon, Russo will have his own channel, Mad Dog Radio. This is good news for the region, which boasts one of the highest satellite radio subscriber bases in the country.
For 19 years, Russo was part of the most successful sports radio partnerships in the history of the genre. Along with Mike Francesa, the duo hosted “Mike and the Mad Dog,” the afternoon drive show on WFAN radio in New York and was the show that all others were measured by when it comes to sports talk.
Those that have already heard the boisterous Russo in the past may be surprised to know that the Mad Dog thinks “fans will really be able to feel my passion about sports” now that he’s doing his own show.
“I can talk about ACC basketball, SEC football, tennis, golf and really anything I want — but most of all, anything the listeners feel like talking about,” Russo said about his new show. “… Because we are on for five hours, chances are that, if you call in, you will get on the air. So call, Washington — we can talk Redskins, Wizards, Caps and Nationals. I want you to become regular listeners and regular callers.”
Russo will be taking full advantage of the resources afforded him by Sirius-XM — whether it’s Buck Martinez from XM’s MLB Home Plate or Carl Banks of Sirius NFL Radio, as well as a large number of experts in other sports.
“We have a deep bench here and that kind of star power helps not only my show, but the listeners as well,” Russo said.
For those of you that have never heard Russo’s show on WFAN, it’s a very entertaining show that once you hear it, you’ll be hooked.
