Jim Williams: ESPN ready for Women’s World Cup start

Everything ESPN learned during the World Cup in South Africa will help make the Women’s World Cup coverage in Germany even better, said senior vice president and executive producer Jed Drake.

Coverage begins Sunday and all games will be on the ESPN family of networks.

The United States is the top ranked team in world.

“They are talented and most importantly they have a great deal of depth. That is just the combination needed to go far in this World Cup,” analyst Julie Foudy said. “There is no doubt that there is a great deal of pressure on the host team Germany to win on their home turf. Plus, you can never count out Brazil.”

Foudy expressed some challenges in her World Cup preperation.

“I really find it tough to get a great deal of information on some of the teams like North Korea,” she said. “There just is not as much information on a number of teams as there is for the men. We also don’t have as much tape to look at, so we will have depended on our research department and conversations with all of our contacts to get the background on all the teams.”
