She?s preparing the same way, but Kimmie Meissner?s next performance will not be routine.
Meissner, 17, will spend the week preparing for Kimmie?s Angels on Ice, an event she has planned to benefit the Cool Kids Campaign for pediatric oncology.
“I?m hoping for a pretty good crowd,” Meissner said. “It?s going to be fun. I can?t wait to start the show.”
The event, which features skaters Yuka Sato, Johnny Weir, Michael Weiss and Evan Lysacek, along with pairs team Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, is Saturday night at 7 at 1st Mariner Arena.
“Ticket sales are going pretty good,” Meissner said. “I hope a lot of people are waiting until the end to go crazy. Everybody should go buy tickets because it?s going to be fun.”
It?s the first time Meissner will skate at 1st Mariner Arena, as the event will mark the largest gathering of ice skating talent to ever perform in Baltimore. There will be no gold medal at the end of the evening, but the ultra-competitive Meissner is still holding herself to a high standard.
“I think it?s going to be one of the more fun ones,” Meissner said. “All my friends are going to be there with me, and I?m going to have a lot of friends in the audience.”
The event will be capped by an opening and closing, which will feature several skaters on the ice at the same time. During the show, each participant will perform once, but some will take to the ice multiple times, including Meissner, who will skate to Avril Lavigne?s “Keep Holding On” and Sarah McLaughlin?s “Angel.”
“It was hard to pick out music,” she said. “You want something meaningful, but something fun.”
