Wizards get Young look

Dontaye Draper was, if nothing else, excited. He was excited to get a call from the Wizards; he was excited to come in for a workout; and, most of all, he was excited for the opportunity.

After all, he said, “this is my hometown team.” What that means for him come Thursday night, and beyond, is uncertain. But for the Baltimore native and College of Charleston product, Monday provided a chance for him to work out with the team he grew up following.

He’ll get another chance to work out for them today, along with USC’s Gabe Pruitt and Arizona’s Marcus Williams.

Draper, a 5-foot-11 guard, averaged 16.2 points and 5.3 assists, shooting 38.4 percent from the three-point line, for Charleston.

One player who could be a first-round pick by Washington also showed off his skills: Georgia Tech forward Thaddeus Young. Kansas State forward Cartier Martin, Wake Forest center Kyle Visser and Manhattan center Shagari Alleyne also worked out.

“It was a great experience,” Draper said.
