The biggest men’s golf tournament that comes to Baltimore each year is of course the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship. The prestigious event starts today at the beautiful Baltimore Country Club East Course in Timonium.

If you can’t get out to the tournament the Golf Channel has extensive coverage that starts today and Friday 1pm to 4pm. Saturday and Sunday coverage moves to NBC. Locally it can be seen on NBC 11 and NBC 4 starting at 4pm each day.

Jay Haas comes in as the favorite with former University of Maryland golf coach Fred Funk as the sentimental favorite.

Haas is poised to become the first player on the Champions Tour to finish atop the money list three years in a row. He tee’s off today as the 2008 money-leader with $1,677,626—his take from winning twice and compiling 11 top-10 finishes in 17 tries.

Haas has already claimed 12 tournament titles—including two majors—and earned more than $8 million in 4 1/2 years on the Champions Tour. In nearly 30 years on the PGA Tour, he won nine tournament titles, no majors and never closed higher than 13th on the money list.

Radio coverage comes on XM 146.
