D.C. United is set to begin yet another week with more losses and fewer healthy players.
Defender Jordan Graye left Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Dallas with a hamstring strain, and the team went on its road trip without midfielder Santino Quaranta, who stayed behind after being diagnosed and treated for MRSA, a type of staph bacteria, according to The Washington Post.
Quaranta, who had surgery Saturday, is expected to miss two weeks.
The injury to Graye, a rookie who was playing in just his third league match, is not expected to be serious but is the latest in a string of hamstring injuries suffered by United players this season.
United dropped to 1-6 after Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman made four saves and got three assists from the goal frame.
“Certainly in the first half we should lock in a goal, but we didn’t,” United coach Curt Onalfo said. “I thought we had a really disciplined game plan. I thought we executed it well for good portions of the game, but we were very unlucky in the finishing end.”
Note » Rangers FC’s summer exhibition match against D.C. United on July 24 is in doubt after the Scottish club decided to withdraw from its U.S. tour, which also included a game against rival Celtic at Fenway Park in Boston.
