Joe Haden
The Florida junior, who played at Friendly High, has declared for the draft. Already rated the top cornerback, the 5-11, 190-pound speedster now is ranked the No. 4 player overall by ESPN. With great speed and amazing strength, Haden will be impressive at the NFL Combine, which begins Feb. 24. His father, Joseph, is a personal trainer who put his sons through rigorous workouts. As a result, Haden has always been ahead of other players his age. But is Haden more a combine freak or football player? That’s the question NFL scouts will have to answer.
Larry Asante
The Nebraska safety (Hayfield), was ticketed for the East-West Shrine Bowl, which was played Saturday, but accepted a late invitation to play in the more prestigious Senior Bowl, which will be held Saturday in Mobile, Ala. (NFL Network). Asante, a hard-hitting strong safety who started three years for the Huskers, is rated the seventh best safety by ESPN, projected to go in the third round.
Navorro Bowman
The Penn State junior linebacker (Suitland) declared for the draft earlier this month, and is destined for the first round. He is rated the top outside linebacker in the draft and the No. 14 player overall (ESPN), excellent in coverage and rushing the passer, but could slip to second round because of character questions. The 6-1, 230-pounder had a long list of off-field incidents at PSU. He served probation for a 2007 fight and currently is serving a one-year probation term for marijuana use.
