After missing the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, it appears Randallstown?s wait may be over. The Rams are 7-1 and in position to qualify for the state public school playoffs.
“We are in the hunt late,” Coach Albert Howard said. “We missed the last two years but the schedule has set up promising for us.”
Randallstown sits in the fourth ?and final ? spot in the 2A North Region, just .08 points in front of City (6-2) and .24 points behind third-place Edmondson (6-2). However, there should be plenty of shifting in the region during the next two weeks, as second-place Poly (7-1) plays Edmondson on Friday and City next week to end the season.
But Randallstown can only worry about who it plays, and for the Rams, that means a showdown at Patapsco (5-3) tonight at 7.
The Rams, who have scored 201 points this year, has been paced by two new starters. Running back Darique Taylor has 725 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns, and quarterback Tashaun Perry has completed 56 percent of his passes for more than 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns.
But the defense might be the key to this team making the playoffs. Junior linebacker Byron Eaton IV, who averages more than 10 tackles per game, leads a speedy unit that allows only 9.8 points per game and has held five teams to seven or fewer points.
“After having the history of Randallstown making the playoffs and we missed them two years in a row, the players want to make their own history,” Howard said. “They want to protect the legacy and that?s what we are out there to do.”
