Giuliani pulling for the Sox?!?

Could it be that one of America’s biggest Yankees fans — former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani — could end up cheering for the … Boston Red Sox?!?

At Saturday’s National Italian American Foundation Gala, Yeas & Nays asked the 2008 Republican presidential candidate which team he was going to support during the postseason now that his beloved Yankees were dumped from the playoffs.

“I may end up cheering for the Red Sox,” Giuliani said. “If they beat Cleveland, I’ll root for the Sox in the World Series. I always cheer for the American League team.”

Somewhere, Joe DiMaggio is rolling in his grave.

Speaking of legendary Yankees, we also asked Hall of Fame Yankee Yogi Berra for his take on where the Yankees season went wrong. Berra, who’s famous for such witty phrases as “When you come to a fork in the road, take it,” decided to avoid any cute witticisms and stick to the obvious. “They lost,” he deadpanned.

On a side note: Rudy may love the Yankees, but his wife, Judith, loves “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Giuliani was overheard telling “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo, “My wife loves your show.”
