Georgetown’s Trawick following in Iverson’s footsteps

Georgetown freshman guard and West Philadelphia native Jabril Trawick’s favorite player is Allen Iverson. “I loved watching him growing up,” Trawick said. “He’s a big role model in my life.”

But Trawick’s hero was the 76ers superstar, not the Georgetown phenomenon in whose footsteps he’s following.

“Honestly, I didn’t really think about it as much until I got here,” Trawick said. “But after a while, I thought about it and how ironic it was that he actually played here and was my favorite player. When I think about it now, it’s something that I truly honor.”

Iverson’s decline has been a sad one. After trying to resurrect his career in Turkey in 2010, he’s back in the news for off-the-court troubles, with a report by TMZ that a judge has garnished his earnings to pay a debt owed to a jeweler.

Trawick and Iverson may have little in common besides Philadelphia, but for a college freshman his sympathy for his idol is genuine and profound.

“You can’t take away what he did in his career,” Trawick said.
