The Capitals returned from Ottawa in the wee hours on Thursday morning so there was limited participation at an optional skate at Kettler Iceplex. Seven players participated – and three of them are hurt. No real updates on defensemen Mike Green (right groin) and Roman Hamrlik (lower-body injury) and forward Jay Beagle (concussion).
“No, not right now. I don’t,” Washington coach Dale Hunter said when asked about Green. Hunter did call Hamrlik “day-to-day” and added “so we’ll decide tomorrow.” Hamrlik practiced on the road trip on Tuesday and took the morning skate and warm-ups on Wednesday. As for Green, he’s on the ice virtually every day now, but has yet to make the leap to a full-contact practice.
The players on the ice for the optional skate: Those three injured players, Jeff Schultz, Cody Eakin, Mathieu Perreault and goalie Michal Neuvirth.
